Photos of Wacken

Failte go Wacken
Welcome Metalheads
Well Wacken was class, dreading rain for the whole trip to the site and then it was too bloody hot for the three days. There we were representing Galway although we managed to forget a flagpole. The boys
Well besides the fact that we had brought little with us besides the 48 various size cans of Bulmers which we had hauled from Ireland, we managed to erect our tents(see note) exactly fifty metres from the gates of the venue after three hours of looking for a suitable place to pitch them. In this time the look of exasperation and general hopelessness on our faces served to entertain the 72000 people who had gotten there before us (German efficiency!!!).
‘Twas a sweet spot we had claimed in the end though, so ’twas.
NOTE:(only 2 tents as Jonny had decided that our “backup” tent was unnecessary since obviously Bulmers would be a lot harder to attain in Germany than a poxy tent)

And then there was music

Black Metal and True Metal stages

To be fair there were a lot of good bands playing but i only saw:

Electric Eel Shock

Dimmu Borgir

Cannibal Corpse

Immortal

Die Apokalyptischen Reiter

Napalm Death

Blind Guardian

In Flames

Saxon

Vital Remains(1/2 a song)

Enslaved

None of the bands were bad but it’s hard to be blown away from the back of the venue, that said, the sound was pretty impressive throughout the festival, but it was the gigs where we were right up the front which were the best for me, so that was Cannibal Corpse and Die Apokalyptischen Reiter (even though I knew nothing about the latter). Some idiot at the front during Cannibal Corpse thought it was clever to shout out the title of each song just before the Corpse played it, we get it , you’ve seen them before, now shut the fuck up and let us enjoy the crushing metal and threats coming from the stage.

I particularly enjoyed Electric Eel Shock even though they aren’t an extreme band they are a brilliant party band and they got a serious crowd on the first night, fair play to them. So if you ever get the chance go and see them! Just Do It!

All in all, there’s just one thing to say..

Make sure to get there early next year!!

Next year
